arthritis? me?!?

So, a month or so ago I started to notice that my knee didn't appreciate all the bending and pressure it was getting. So I searched and what?! it appears I'm getting arthritis. Eeek. Then I had this conversation with myself:
"well, I AM 52 - my body should start wearing out."
"Nonsense!" I replied. "Methuselah lived to be 969, and his body held out!"
"But you're not Methuselah, and do you really want to outlive your great, great, great grandchildren?"
"Yes."
So I found my way back to google. I'm in the process of searching for natural cures for arthritis. And don't tell me it can't be cured. I've heard that before about other things. I don't believe it. Our body is constantly making new cells - and someone told me that every 7 years our body pretty much replaces itself. So I figure diet and some other natural stuff will do the trick.
I'm reaching out to all of you, and I'm willing to try anything that doesn't sound scary:
any suggestions?

  1. Oh no! I am sorry to hear that you are having pain, DenaLee! I have heard that drinking a cup of tart cherry juice daily works wonders, but that it may take 2-3 weeks to take effect. Have you read any books by Dr. Weill? He probably has suggestions as well.

  4. Stay active as much as you can. Both my mom and her twinsister have arthritis - my mum caved and let the arthritis win and is now using a walker - my aunt stayed active and she's a very active 70+ old lady.

  5. Can't recall if you've read my post on Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with "the mother"...it is amazing. I have fibromyalgia and after taking this several weeks..all my pain left. It came back when I stopped! I'm back on and seeing the improvements again. I have several friends who testify of it's healing powers in their bodies also. Try it! BRAGG is the best brand I have found. Find mine at my local Grocer too!

  6. So sorry to hear you are in pain, sweetie. Have you checked your vitamin D levels, because that's so important for the joints and muscles.

  7. I was diagnosed with arthritis at 26 so your body wearing down comment made me smile. Arthritis is typically hereditary and is most commonly diagnosed in women between the ages of 25-30.

I have learned a great deal from my rheumatologist and would recommend your readers consult one if they wake up with stiffness in their joints that last more than 5 minutes. Take it from someone that woke up one morning and couldn't walk for two months.

In terms of diet, cut out caffeine. It has had the biggest effect on my arthritis pain. There are lots of anti-inflammatory foods...I personally love pineapple and crave it.

Also, opt for low-impact exercises (swimming, yoga, biking) and be sure to involve weight lifting as strengthening the muscles that support your joints is key to long-term health.

I hope this helped. If you want to talk more about arthritis, let me know. I've tried everything (arthritis specific diets, cleanses, acupuncture, scary medication, chiropractor, massage therapy).

  8. I've been using products from Liv International and LOVE them! A friend of mine has fibro and is almost completely pain free with them. I watched another person with arthritis use one of the products and just a few minutes later was able to screw the top off a water bottle that she couldn't even grab just moments earlier. They are truly great products, and I absolutely love the few I am using. You can check them out at www.livinternational.com if you'd like!
