insomnia

ugh.
It happens to all of us, I know.
So for me, I usually get insomnia on nights when I have to sleep.
I've got a long drive ahead of me tomorrow ... need to be awake and alert, so of course, that's what's keeping me awake and alert at 2am - the fact that I really need my sleep right now.

I have a friend who once said,
"I have learned to make insomnia my friend".
So that's what I'm trying to do right now - be productive with my time awake - rather than continue to lie in bed, forcing my eyes to stay shut, begging my body to sleep.
Here are some more things I've been thinking I'm going to do in 2011:
* finish the creative writing course I started months ago
* copy all of our family videos to DVD (I'm not sure, but am thinking that about the time I finish this, I'll be needing to copy all my family DVDs to some other sleeker media)
* make time to comment on more of your lovely blogs that entertain me and enlighten me!
* get rid of stuff in our garage that we've moved with us from Guam to Alaska to Nevada, but have never used
Ok - I feel better about being wide awake during the middle of the night before I have to be up and driving in 4 more hours :) Thanks for listening ....

  1. Oh Denalee we are on the same page - it's 3:57 a.m. here in Phoenix and here I am up as well. I should clean the house and finish taking down the Christmas decorations but I'm telling myself that will make too much noise and wake my husband so here I sit. Good Luck on your drive, being tired is not good. Lively music that makes you sing along and windows down.

  3. aww sorry about the lack of sleep Denalee. Good for you for being productive. Unfortunately my lack of sleep these days has to do with the endless bathroom breaks haha.

    Have a lovely day xxoo

  4. I basically sleep the worst when I KNOW I need to sleep...right now. I wake up every hour it seems.
and have this lovely conversation with myself:
Ok, it's midnight, If I fall asleep RIGHT NOW, I'll get to sleep for 6 more hours.
OK, now its 1:00 a.m. If I fall asleep RIGHT NOW, I'll get 5 hours of sleep.
    you get the idea.

but there is no way I seem to want to get my sorry self out of bed and do someething constructive.
I do my BEST sleeping when I am trying to read. Or drive a car.
    Yup.

  5. I hope you were able to get some shut-eye!? I think most of us have been there at some time or another. It is NOT fun. I usually read (a book, not on the computer) and I fall fast asleep. Which is not the best when YOU really want to read a BOOK!
I have been having a bit of anxiety thinking about all the things I have (need) to DO lately too. That is enough to keep you awake at night. Hopefully you can get some peace of mind soon so you can sleep. Saying a prayer for you right now.

    Happy New Year!
    XOXO Gloria

  6. Insomnia is the worst! I like your strategy, but always flip-flop: does purposefully being awake make sleep more elusive?! Let us know how much you get done!

  7. I find that reading a book (while laying down) when I cannot fall asleep helps me to 1) be productive with my time 2) helps me fall asleep faster than if I were moving around the house and being active or even using the computer

    Hope that helps!

  9. I have the same problem with not being able to sleep sometimes. I usually end up blogging then wondering, "What was I thinking?" when I read it the next day.
