"... to grow old beloved"

I love this phrase at the end of the book:
"[he] achieved that best reward of a well-spent life ... to grow old beloved"
That's my quest every day!

    I read the book in high school, just for fun. I loved it but I don't remember most of the details. I should read it again. What a great last line!
