So I thought about our recent climb of Angel's Landing. We looked toward the summit for our goal, but it kept looking impossible to most of us. It seemed as if we would never get there, and really - scary and daunting. But when we'd take a quick break and look down where we'd come from ... Well, the obvious progress we made served to encourage and excite us!
Life and goals are like that. It's good to set our goals high and to keep them in sight. But if we never look back and notice our progress it is too easy to get discouraged and sometimes even give up.
Remember what Jim Rohn said:
"Success is steady progress toward one's personal goals."

These are great words to live by. I need to hear them! I'm trying so hard to find a writing/editing job and I just applied to the perfect one. I like to think I'm making progress on the job hunt! Welcome to Chicago, I'm glad the weather decided to treat you well!
ReplyDeleteSo true! We are all works in progress, although that can be tough to remember sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHave fun- I could never do Angels Landing with my monkeys- I would not feel relaxed at all- I prefer the type of hikes where one 'wrong' step doesn't kill you-
ReplyDeleteWhen they get older we'll for sure do it- we did the river walk this summer.
I love this, I think we've become so goal-oriented (not a bad thing, like you said!) it's easy to lose perspective. This is a terrific reminder, and very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteoh darlin',
ReplyDeletethose are VERY wise words!

love that thought! thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat Angels Landing looks like one heck of a hike. (I saw it actually a few days ago on another one of my bloggers sites, as she lives in St. George)
ReplyDeleteI love how you say we have to look back, so we can see how far we have come.
Progress...NOT perfection.
I love the saying by Leonard Cohen..
RING THE BELLS THAT STILL CAN RING
FORGET YOUR PERFECT OFFERIING
THERE IS A CRACK IN EVERYTHING......
THAT'S HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN.
I think I could learn a thing or two from that saying "Progress, Not Perfection" Sometimes we don't stop to realize what progress we have made and just let amazing moments and accomplishments pass in our effort to achieve perfection.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I truly love the idea of your blog. My father was diagnosed with cancer when I was quite young- 10 years + later cancer free :-)
